Venture East // Vietnam
Schools Community Project & Trekking, Vietnam
Full of Eastern Promise!
Vietnam is a spectacular country and the dream destination for so many travellers. It has so much to offer: dramatic rural landscapes, urban buzz, intriguing culture, amazing food and fascinating history. Teams will navigate around the country immersing themselves in all these elements that Vietnam has to offer! The combination of project and trekking elements in this expedition gives students lots of opportunity to push themselves, gain and develop skills, and to create memories that will last a lifetime.
Teams will be supported by our experienced expedition leaders and our in-country team as they work with a local community in Phong Nha on a construction project and take on the challange of our epic jungle trek.
The community project phase not only enables us to assist in a project that directly benefits the host community, but also gives students the opportunity to live with and really get to know what Vietnamese life is like. Teams will work together with a local community based in Phong Nhato to complete the construction project.
The project focus will be chosen in consultation with the village elders and our in-country experts. Every project is a collaboration, with decisions on which projects to tackle based on what the local community feel is a sustainable resolution to a problem they’ve highlighted. Our projects benefit not only our host communities, but everyone that takes part. A true collaboration of cultures and global citizenship!
Our expeditions also include local interest visits, providing educational opportunities, as well as an insight into the country’s heritage, history and people. These visits can include trips to:
- Vietnamese Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) – in Hue teams will have the opportunity to visit the DMZ and learn about the Vietnam War
- Hanoi – explore the bustling city centre and check out the amazing street food, visit Ho Chi Minh’s mausoleum or the notorious Hanoi Hilton
- Lan Ha Bay – kayaking trip to explore the floating villages, caves and pristine beaches
- Ha Long Bay – an additional trip to this world famous bay. Teams will make an overnight trip on a fully catered ship, visit beaches and spend the night moored amonst these breathtaking islands
This jungle trek is an experience not to be missed! The route is through the Phong Nha Ke-Bang National Park. The park is famous for its mountainous jungle, underground rivers, ancient limestone karsts and vast network of caves.
Teams will head out into the jungle for four days trekking. On the way they will will learn about the flora and fauna of this amazing ecoystem, which is home to tigers, black bears and elephants. At night, in the jungle camp, they will experience the symphonious sound of jungle night life. To be successful in this challenge, team members will need to work together and support each other.

Embrace the challenge and remember the unique experience!
Expect an experience that is going to make students re-think their world view! This an expedition, not a holiday and is taking place in a country far removed from the UK, both in distance and cultural norms.
Accommodation and food are likely to be different to what students are used to. Team members are encouraged to embrace this, it’s part of what expeditions are about! At times students will be completely out of their comfort zone and that is an integral element of developmental expeditions
