Dive with turtles in the South China Sea!
Malaysia is a diverse country in both environment and culture. Being a peninsula, there is a huge amount of coastline including beaches, mangroves, and islands. Inland, steamy jungle gives way to tea plantations in the cooler highlands. Sitting on a major maritime trade route, Malaysia’s culture, cuisine and religious outlook has been influenced by traders from China, India, Arabia and Europe. You will get a flavour of all this variety as the expedition team journeys around this beautiful country.
This expedition gives you the opportunity to get involved in turtle conservation. The team will work together on a project to help save the dwindling turtle populations. Once the project is completed, the team will head to the Perhentian Islands to learn to dive and for the fantastic opportunity to see the turtles in their natural habitat. Joining this expedition team and learning to dive could be the start of an adventure that will last for years!

Our conservation projects allow you to get hands-on experience working on a wildlife project. We work with selected charity partners who are speciailists in their conservation field. Their expert guidance enables our teams to take part in impactful conservation projects.
Teams will assist in the important conservation work of the Malaysian Turtle Conservation Society (MTCS), who work tirelessly to promote population growth of native turtles and terrapins.
Dr Pelf Chok is the driving force and passion behind MTCS. Merely to be around Pelf is inspirational and it is clear why she and her dedicated team are making massive steps in helping the wildlife.
To maximise your time in-country you’ll complete PADI’s e-learning programme before departure. This will allow you to obtain the necessary theory required to learn to dive. If you already have a PADI qualification, you can work towards advancing your expertise and improve your qualification level to Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver.
Once on the beautiful Perhentian Islands, team members undertake practical dive training in the crystal-clear seas of the South China Sea with the opportunity to see turtles in their natural unspoilt environment. The dive course is five days long, culminating in a free dive and certification presentation.
What better place to undertake your scuba training than these beautiful islands. No gravel pits, rusting shopping trolleys and bikes here!
Gaining a diving qualification will let you discover a hidden world, previously the preserve of David Attenborough and other wildlife specialists. It will enable you to meet divers from all over the world, who may have a different culture and language, have a shared passion for sea life and the freedom of diving.
