Wildlife Safari - Isla De La Plata

Expedition Duration (when In-country): 1-2 Days
Description: Guided, accommodation on mainland, boat ride and whale watching en-route
Expedition Level: Beginners, sight-seeing activity

37 km east from the coastal village of Puerto Lopez the Isla de La Plata that provides a unique opportunity to see a wide range of marine wildlife see close up and is one of two places on the earth (other than the Galapagos) where the three species of Booby can be seen side by side.

Between the mainland and the Islands the Humboldt Current flows north from the Antarctic regions bringing families of Humpback Whales to feed in this food rich flow. The tour boats en-route to the island provided the chance to be alongside these massive but docile creatures as they travel northward with their families.

The mellow beachside town of Isla de la Plata suits our needs perfectly being close enough to Guayaquil that we can use it as a relaxing final destination and a stepping stone to flights home. The laid back attitude of the town’s people, mild Pacific surf, small cafes and bars where Latin American dancing takes place on sand dance floors coupled with the warmth of the equator and miles of stunning beach makes it ideal as your last memory of this stunning country.
