Alaska

Alaska is the 49th State and still has a real “Pioneer” feel to it. The people are friendly and easy going and life is lived at a gentle pace. The towns and cities are busy but you don’t have to travel far till you are in the back country and some real wilderness. The place is huge and it takes a time to adjust to the sheer scale of things. A summer’s day in Alaska is just like Scotland, it is possible to experience all 4 seasons in one! Although when the sun shines, valley bottom temperatures can reach the mid-20s Celsius whilst on the Ice, temperatures will dip below zero, especially overnight. During the day, reflected glare from the snow can be strongcreating conditions in which burning can be severe. It is essential, therefore, to be well protected – barrier cream, glasses and sun hat. It is imperative that clients have suitable mountain clothing and equipment for all of the possible combinations of weather.

Expedition Duration: 18 Days
Description: Guided, supported trekking; accommodation in tents / Bunkhouses
Expedition Level: Demanding, Not for the timid!

This Expedition is “full on” and requires a level of commitment throughout. The team is on the Harding Icefield travelling and climbing for a period of 13 days. Conditions are variable but commensurate with being on North America’s largest Icefield. On our various trips to the area Venture Force staff have experienced calm days with blissful blue skies through to blizzard conditions that have kept us confined to our tents – we need to be prepared for each extreme! Be assured however that whatever the conditions this is a trip you will never forget.

The process of managing the day to day duties of an expedition team, far from home and well out of their comfort zones, is an excellent vehicle for personal and team development. With the aid of our expert expedition leaders who are highly experienced in building and developing character, this could be the ideal medium for teachers to see students in a different arena giving them the chance to develop and prepare themselves for University, Further Education or future Employment.

In addition to the Glacier Trek on the Harding Icefield we are also able, in partnership with the American Fish & Wildlife Service, to offer Conservation Work in remote and challenging environments for time periods of between 5 & 10 days. Like the main Expedition Trek these are demanding experiences that require a high level of commitment by all involved. The opportunity to see some amazing wildlife and some fantastic scenery is omnipresent. Give us a call and discuss this expedition with someone who’s been there and seen the system work!

Pricing: Venture Force ensures that each and every expedition, project or skills training programme in our portfolio is designed round the needs of the client, or clients. Prices are therefore impossible to quote in advance, to obtain a quote call or email us direct.
