Indian Experience (Himalaya)

Himalayan India and the Kuari Pass (14 days)

Known as Curzon's trail after Lord Curzon's trek to this region in 1905, it remains one of the most popular in the region.

Our trek will pass through dense forests of oak, pine, rhododendron, deodar and bugyals, through beautiful meadows teeming with flowers typical of this region.

Throughout the trek we will be treated to many views of the high snow clad Himalayan peaks such as Trishul, Kedarnath, Kamet, Chaukhamba and of course the famous Nanda Devi can be seen clearly for most of the trek. The views provide inspiration to even the most tired of trekkers.

Our two week trip will commence amidst the hustle and bustle of Delhi in all its glory.

On arrival at the 'Indira Gandhi International Airport' we'll travel to the Paha-Ganj area of this hugely diverse city and stay overnight within easy striking distance of New Delhi rail station.

Paha-Ganj is a characterful area of Delhi providing first hand experience of life in India's cities. Our modest hotel will be ideally located to visit local Dhabas (street cafes), a multitude of shops and market stalls, ending with a 'Street Kid tour'.

Organised by the national charity 'Salaam Ballaak' and guided by ex-street kids, we'll see the 'real story' of the poverty and opportunities offered by the charity. This is a tour that cannot be missed!

The rail journey north will allow us to view the countryside as we approach the foothills of the Himalayas.

Our initial destination of Rishikesh, made famous by the Beatles, is a magical mix of colours, sounds and religion, nestling in the foothills of the Himalayas and straddling the sacred Ganges. It offers the chance to relax before the trek, or for the more adventurous, the opportunity to white water raft.

Finally the team will travel North by 4X4 to Chepna, a tiny hamlet set in the mountains and our first camp on six day trek North.

We will be supported by experienced local guides and horsemen and our catering provided by experienced expedition cooks.

Pre-selected campsites allow for adequate running water and tremendous views for the entire trek before arriving happy, fit and content after six days at the town of Josimath on the of China. Here you will have the chance to meet locals, visit temples, cafés and market shops.

The remainder of the trek is open to negotiation and will be planned and costed accordingly.  Maybe the team would wish to return to Delhi and fly home or make the further trip to Agra to visit the magical Taj Mahal and Agra Fort.  All is possible.  We have many of different options!
