Want to progress from summer walking into winter mountaineering? Why not give it a try on our Winter Skills Course in the Cairngorms?!
Many walkers want to enjoy the mountains all year round but don’t believe they have the skills or the expertise to do so. Don’t let your skill level be a barrier – we can provide you with the skills, the expertise and the confidence to let you enjoy the mountains, year round. This course is designed to give those who have never done winter walking the necessary skills to feel confident in the hills in winter. It is also designed to act as a refreshed for those who have done a bit of winter mountaineering but feel they need a bit more ‘training’.

WHEN AND WHERE?
When: 3rd-5th February 2017 (Friday Evening through to Sunday Afternoon).

SO WHY VENTURE FORCE?
We like to think we are different from the other companies offering this kind of training. Our teaching ration not be bigger than 1 leader: 6 clients allowing you to get the attention and coaching you require. This will give you a first class experience where you feel safe and secure and will give you a chance to get to know everyone in the group, including the leaders.
We employ first class leaders to deliver our programmes who have the qualifications, knowledge and experience to coach you and teach you the necessary skills. .
We’re also a fun group of people, ensuring that you enjoy your time in the mountain whilst you’re learning. In addition we have an outstanding safety management and back up system ensuring that you always know we have your back.
THE NUTS AND BOLTS
What you will be learning can be tailored to the individual needs of the clients. However, as a minimum, the course will cover the following skills:
- Use of an ice-axe including slef-arrest
- Use of crampons
- Avalanche and weather awareness
- Tips for winter navigation
- Emergency procedures.

Clients should be hill fit and be happy to spend two consecutive days on the mountains in bad weather. If conditions are appropriate and clients wish there may be the opportunity to overnight in a snow hole.
